CCTV News: The reporter learned from the National Forestry and Grassland Administration that at 23:00 p.m. local time on April 10, 5:00 a.m. Beijing time on April 11, at the 221st session of the UNESCO Executive Bureau held in Paris, France, two candidates recommended by my country, Cambra, Qinghai and Yunyang, Chongqing, were officially approved as UNESCO World Geopark. At this point, my country's world geological parks have increased to 49, and the number continues to rank first in the world.
Kambula World Geopark is located in Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, with a total area of 3149.34 square kilometers. It is located on the northeast edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the transition zone of China's first and second-level landforms. The park has completely preserved the stratigraphic structures and records of magma activities in the Indochina and Yanshan periods in three important geological periods. Among them, the section of the Triassic deep-sea sedimentary formation in the Longwu River Triassic period has become a "geological textbook" for the international academic community to study the transformation of Gutertis's oceanic continent with clear evolutionary sequences. The extremely basic rock mass of Longwuxia, magnificent Danxia landform and Yellow River landscape coexist in the park is not only an excellent place to study the tectonic evolution of the earth and the transformation of oceanic landslides, but also a real witness to the transformation of the sea into mulberry fields, and a natural museum for studying the giant landslides and climate change in the upper reaches of the Yellow River. In addition, the park deeply integrates the intangible cultural heritage Regong art with Qiang and Tibetan folk culture, forming a "geology-ecology-humanistic" collaborative protection model. It is a rare comprehensive geological park in the world that integrates high-precision geological research, diverse cultural experience and plateau ecological protection.
Yunyang World Geopark is located in the southern part of Yunyang County, Chongqing City, with a total area of 1,124.05 square kilometers and is located in the hinterland of the Three Gorges Reservoir Area of the Yangtze River. The park features the Middle Jurassic dinosaur fossil group, with a 18.2-kilometer-long "World Dinosaur Fossil Wall" and the world's largest Jurassic monomer dinosaur fossil wall. It connects the evolutionary process of Asian Jurassic dinosaurs, fills the gap in the world's dinosaur evolution sequence, and has important international significance. In addition, Yunyang also has the karst landform of Longgan Tiankeng, and rare biological resources such as big spirit cats and little spirit cats. They are also the habitat of new species of Yunyang's palm-toad toads. They are also deeply intertwined with historical and cultural heritage such as Zhang Fei Temple and Panshi City and Tujia folk culture, forming a global unique dinosaur evolution-karst landform-ecological humanistic collaborative protection system, interpreting the symbiotic value of earth science and human civilization.
In 2015, in order to further protect global geological heritage and natural landscapes, the 38th UNESCO General Assembly approved the "International Geoscience and Geopark Program" and established the "UNESCO World Geopark". As of now, there are 229 world geological parks around the world. Since joining the plan, my country has always adhered to the concept of "praising the magic of creation and seeking the long-term prosperity of the region", actively explored geological relics protection and utilization models that conform to local actual conditions and demonstrated regional characteristics, promoted sustainable economic and social development, vividly interpreted the concept of "green water and green mountains are gold and silver mountains", widely spread the concept of ecological civilization, and won widespread praise from the international community.
