An ancient canal, with homes on both sides. The East Zhejiang Canal starts from Hangzhou, Zhejiang in the west, flows through Shaoxing and ends at Ningbo in the east. It is the southern end of the Grand Canal of China and the southern end of the Maritime Silk Road. It has a unique position in the history of inland river shipping in China and the world.
In September 2023, General Secretary Xi Jinping, who was inspecting Zhejiang, came to the Zhejiang East Canal Cultural Park in Shaoxing, and walked to inspect the ancient canal channels and surrounding historical and cultural relics, and learned in detail about the development and evolution history of the eastern Zhejiang Canal and the local rational use of water resources and promoting the protection of the Grand Canal. He emphasized that the Grand Canal culture is an important part of China's excellent traditional culture, and we must work hard to protect, inherit and utilize it to make the ancient Grand Canal rejuvenate a new look in the times.
From the Zhejiang East Canal Cultural Park with new business formats, to the Jianhu National Wetland Park with fresh green, to the ancient bridge and ancient streets that are rejuvenated... The canal that has flowed for thousands of years is showing a new picture that is endless.
