On March 31, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Guo Jiakun presided over a regular press conference. A reporter asked, "We noticed that after the Myanmar earthquake, China immediately expressed its condolences to Myanmar and provided disaster relief assistance." Can the spokesperson give more information?
Guo Jiakun said that after the earthquake, China quickly activated the emergency mechanism and made every effort to carry out rescue and consular protection.
The Yunnan rescue medical team arrived in Myanmar 18 hours after the earthquake. It was the first international rescue team to enter the earthquake-stricken area. It worked with local rescue forces to successfully rescue a trapped person. The Chinese rescue team, China International rescue team, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region rescue team, and China Red Cross International rescue team entered Myanmar at night to provide assistance. Civil rescue forces from all over China have or are entering Myanmar. At present, about 400 Chinese earthquake experts, rescue and medical staff have participated in earthquake relief in various parts of Myanmar, and the Chinese rescue team has rescued 6 survivors.
China announced that it would provide 100 million yuan of emergency humanitarian assistance to Myanmar, providing urgently needed materials such as tents, first aid kits, food, drinking water, etc. The first batch of materials have arrived in Myanmar, and the Chinese Red Cross has also provided disaster relief materials assistance.
Natural disasters are ruthless, and there is love in the world. China will carry forward the friendship between China and Myanmar, overcome difficulties together with Myanmar, seize the golden 72 hours to search and rescue survivors, treat the wounded, and deliver aid materials to the victims. We believe that with the support of the international community, the Myanmar government and people will be able to unite, overcome disasters and rebuild their homes.
