Since the 1980s, Zhang Yuzhen has been working in the field of ecological and environmental protection. During her 12 years as a National People's Congress representative, most of the nearly 70 suggestions she submitted focused on ecological and environmental protection.

Last year's National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Zhang Yuzhen put forward suggestions on strengthening the construction of beautiful villages in the fields of rural space layout optimization, rural solid waste treatment, and rural non-point source pollution control. The Ministry of Ecology and Environment replied that it will work with relevant departments to organize the establishment of a mechanism for the control of agricultural non-point source pollution and supervise and guidance, and deploy key tasks such as investigation and monitoring, demarcation of priority governance areas, systematic governance and effectiveness evaluation. Fujian Province has also introduced relevant policy measures to address livestock and poultry and aquaculture pollution and disorderly cage farming in water outlet reservoir areas. In the Minjiang River Shuikou Reservoir Area, 1.3 million square meters of cage farming has now achieved a green transformation.

Rural groundwater, as an important source of drinking and irrigation water, concerns thousands of households. In the past two days, Zhang Yuzhen came to a groundwater monitoring point in Shanghang County, Fujian for investigation. At this year's National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, she will focus on rural ecological environment monitoring and put forward suggestions on further strengthening the construction of rural groundwater monitoring network system.
